Mooy magic: Socceroos star scores twice as Ange’s Celtic sizzle in four-goal thrashing

A double from Australian star Aaron Mooy has helped Celtic to a 4-0 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road as Ange Postecoglou’s side maintained their nine– point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Mooy opened the scoring in the 28th minute when he was on hand to smash home the rebound after Hibs failed to properly clear Daizen Maeda’s cross.

The Aussie was on his toes just 12 yards out as he struck a sweetly-timed volley past David Marshall.

It was then Maeda’s turn to get on the scoresheet with a stunning solo effort that began just past the halfway mark.

The Japanese star had the ball and Hibs right back Chris Cadden in front of him, but Maeda sent Cadden slipping to the ground with a silky drag-back before skipping past his opposite number.

Maeda then dribbled towards goal with Celtic left back Greg Taylor making the overlapping run on the left.

However, a little shimmy from Maeda sent two Hibs defenders the wrong way and opened up plenty of space for him to make his way further infield.

The Hoops forward then unleashed a vicious strike from 20 yards out that left a sprawling Marshall with no hope.

Mooy then got his second of the night in the 58th minute, sending Marshall the wrong way from the penalty spot after a VAR check confirmed Hibernian’s Lewis Stevenson handled the ball in the box.

The Socceroos midfielder’s double meant it was his first two-goal haul in a single match almost a year to date, with his last coming for Shanghai Port in a Chinese Super League match against Gunagzhou City on December 28 in 2021.

Celtic weren’t done there with the goals, as Kyogo Furuhashi scored the Hoops’ fourth of the evening to complete the rout.
