Nick Green will see out the A-League Men season as Brisbane coach as the club conducts a full program restructure following Warren Moon’s axing.
The Roar announced Moon’s immediate departure on Monday and on Tuesday appointed Green as his temporary replacement.
The former Brisbane City FC NPL coach has experience in England and will have his hands full at the 11th-placed Roar.
Currently on a seven-game winless streak and just one point off the bottom of the ladder, the Roar have mustered just 13 goals in 17 games – six fewer than any other team.
A Roar statement on Tuesday confirmed Green would take charge ahead of Sunday’s clash with Perth Glory in Redcliffe, but that bigger-picture plans were also under way.
“The club has commenced a head coach recruitment process, which is part of a broader restructuring program, and expects to make further announcements after the conclusion of the current season,” the statement read.
Moon took over from Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler towards the end of the 2019/20 season, taking the Roar to two finals campaigns and last year’s Australia Cup semi-finals.
The club was busy during this month’s transfer window to address their offensive woes, recruiting Serbian striker Stefan Scepovic and welcoming back Robbie Kruse among seven new faces brought to the club.
But Kruse is yet to play in his Brisbane return, while Scepovic saw only late minutes in his debut against Sydney FC.
