Messi, Mbappe, Modric, Morocco: Epic World Cup semi-finals locked in

The World Cup is down to the final four – and what a final four it is!

Reigning champions France are the first team since 1998 to make it into the semi-finals the following tournament, after beating England in a brilliant quarter-final when Three Lions skipper Harry Kane missed a decisive penalty.

They will face Morocco, the first Arab, Muslim, and African nation to ever reach the semi-finals after a boilover against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

Should France win that battle, they will face either Croatia or Argentina in the decider.

The French beat Croatia in the final in Russia 2018, and a rematch with Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric’s men is a mouth-watering proposition. 37-year-old captain, Croatia’s greatest-ever player, led Croatia past favourites and world No. 1 Brazil on penalties in their quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Argentina – led by 35-year-old Lionel Messi at his fifth World Cup – are into the semi-finals after beating the Netherlands on penalties in a dazzling, dramatic win.

They are hoping that talismanic hero Messi can finally follow in the great Diego Maradona’s footsteps and bring home the trophy, something he has failed to do in his stellar career.
