Melbourne half terrorised as Grant masterclass not enough to stop boilover: Storm Player Ratings

Some costly errors marred another Cameron Munster masterclass, Xavier Coates scored a brilliant hat-trick and Harry Grant did all he could in a losing side.

The Storm had their moments but iultimately fell short in a 28-20 loss to be knocked out of the finals.

6. CAMERON MUNSTER – 8

Missed a tackle for the Raiders first try after a monster fend from Matthew Timoko. Bounced back to feature in the Storm’s first try for Coates. Had 86 run metres in the first half. Had two touches to set up a brilliant long-range try for Coates’ third. Missed a crucial penalty goal that would have locked up the scores. Got a horror bounce to gift Young a crucial late try. Finished with 187 metres.

2. DAVID NOFOALUMA – 7

Made an early error, but made up for it with some solid charges to get the Storm out of their red zone. Part of the missed tackle that led to the Fogarty try. Finished the first 40 with 51 run metres from six runs. Finished with 88 metres.

3. MARION SEVE – 8

Set up the first try for the Storm with a classy try assist. Struggled to get involved with his running game early. Just eight run metres in the first half, but had a linebreak assist and a try assist to go with nine tackles. helped set up Coates’ third try with a break down the right edge. Ran for 117 metres.

4. JUSTIN OLAM – 7

Went close to scoring a first half try after chasing a Grant kick. made a poor read in defence in the lead-up to Fogarty’s try. Made 54 run metres in the first stanza. Ran for 100 metres.

5. XAVIER COATES – 10

Produced a brilliant finish to score the Storm’s first try of the night. Made it a first half double pouncing on a perfect kick from Hughes. Finished the first half with 32 run metres and a classy double. Sealed a brilliant hat-trick after finishing off a long-range stunner. Finished with 70 metres.

1. NICK MEANEY – 6

Missed an opportunity to score the Storm’s first try with a handling error on the try line before missing his first two conversions. Was targeted in defence by the Raiders, bumping off two tackles that led to tries for Canberra. Made just five run metres in the first half, but was solid with his passing game as the facilitator and link man. Finished with 56 metres and five missed tackles.

7. JAHROME HUGHES – 7

Had his running game going early showing no signs of his calf injury. Produced a brilliant pass that led to a try assist from Marion Seve. Off the next set produced a brilliant cross-field kick for Coates to score his double. Made 66 run metres and had a try assist in the first half. Featured in the movement for Coates’ third try. Went off early in the second half for a HIA, but was carrying multiple injuries. Had 81 run metres and a try assist.

8. JESSE BROMWICH – 8

Solid first half with some excellent charges and sound defence. Had 78 run metres and 12 tackles without a miss in the first 40. Finished with 100 metres.

9. HARRY GRANT – 9

Made an uncharacteristic early error, but looked dangerous every time he touched the ball. Went close to setting up a try with a pinpoint kick to Olam that was batted dead. Helped create the space for the Storm’s second try with a dart out of dummyhalf. Made 35 run metres to go with 14 tackles in the first half. Set up the try for Asofa-Solomona to give the Storm the lead. Finished with 75 metres and 37 tackles.

15. TUI KAMIKAMICA – 7

Brought into the starting side at prop and set the platform with some strong charges and was perfect defensively early. Had 48 run meres and a team high 21 tackles in the first half. Finished with 61 metres and 39 tackles.

10. NELSON ASOFA-SOLOMONA – 9

Burst out of the blocks with some brutal charges to get the Storm on the front foot early. Made the most metres of any Storm forward in the first half with 80. Charged over from close range to give the Storm the lead in the second half. Finished with 159 metres, eight tackle busts and a try.

12. KENNEATH BROMWICH – 6

Missed a couple of tackles early, but was solid with ball in hand and nearly set up a try with a kick showing his versatility. Came off late in the first half for a HIA. Made 46 run metres and 11 tackles before he came off. Ran for 66 metres to go with 24 tackles but missed 6.

14. BRANDON SMITH – 8

Brought into the starting side at lock and made a fast start and impact early. Had 50 run metres, three tackle busts and 14 tackles in the first half. had 70 run metres and 26 tackles.

11. FELISE KAUFUSI – 6

Came on late in the first half and gave away a penalty that led to a try to Elliott Whitehead. Only managed six tackles and no run metres in the first stanza. Had just 37 metres and 17 tackles.

13. JOSH KING – 7

Came on late in the first half, but could only watch as his side was forced to defend. Zero run metres and just three tackles in the first half. had 44 metres and 23 tackles.

16. TRENT LOIERO – 6

Limited opportunities to finish with 32 run metres.

17. CHRIS LEWIS – 5

Had just 22 metres from two runs in limited minutes.
