Matty Johns was left stunned after the Newcastle Knights delivered a brutal sledge during their match against the Sydney Roosters on Saturday. The Knights, who are currently in the bottom four of the NRL ladder, put in a strong performance to beat the Roosters 18-14.
The sledge came in the second half when Newcastle’s Mitchell Pearce was tackled by Roosters player Angus Crichton. Pearce then got up and yelled out to Crichton, “It hasn’t been that hard, has it?”
Johns, who is a former Newcastle Knights player, was taken aback by the sledge and said it was a sign of the team’s confidence and belief in themselves. He said, “It was a great sledge from Mitchell Pearce. It showed that the Knights have a lot of confidence and belief in themselves and that they are not afraid to take on the bigger teams in the competition.”
Johns also praised the team’s overall performance and said it was a sign that they are starting to turn things around. He said, “The Knights have been struggling this season but this performance showed that they are starting to turn things around. They defended well and attacked with purpose and it was great to see them get the win.”
The win was the Knights’ third of the season and it has given them a much-needed boost of confidence. With a few more wins under their belt, they could be set for a strong finish to the season.
Johns’ comments show that the Knights are starting to believe in themselves and that they are capable of competing with the best teams in the competition. It will be interesting to see how they fare in the coming weeks and if they can continue their good form.
