Chances galore on the Gold Coast
Nearly a second goal for Brazil as Adriana latches onto the scraps from a Brazilian corner kick and takes a lash… it sails just over the crossbar, but not a bad idea.
Now at the other end, Caitlin Foord is clear into space! She runs and then tries to square the ball for Hayley Raso but it’s not quite right and the visitors clear their lines.

A very simple pass unlocks Gabi Portilho and cuts Courtney Nevin out of the picture. She gallops forward under zero pressure, pulls the trigger from close range and… it’s a goal.
Brazil leads. Australia is left to rue their missed chances at the other end.

Matildas are finding their groove
Raso almost made something happen out of nothing here, getting to the ball before Lorena could collect it – the move ends with Yallop taking a pop from about 20 yards out but it’s comfortably saved.
Really promising stuff by the Matildas, though, overall.

Yallop gets one on target
Chances are starting to build now for Australia. This one falls to Tameka Yallop after some good build-up work by Caitlin Foord – it’s saved by Lorena, who was just receiving some treatment during a break in play. And now she saves another – Ellie Carpenter’s shot from a narrow angle.
And now a free kick for the Matildas after Kyra Cooney-Cross is crudely brought down on the right flank. What can this be for Australia… Courtney Nevin delivers an in-swinger but it’s dealt with by Brazil.
Now Foord from the edge of the box! But she skies it.
Best little stretch of play from the hosts so far.

Yellow card number two for Brazil
Now Lauren gets a yellow ticket for another blatant holding foul. I mean, at least try to disguise it a little bit. Brazil’s two full-backs are now walking a tightrope in this match – one more bad foul and they’re off. This referee ain’t playing around.

Micah makes another save
This time it’s Giovana with the shot for Brazil, on another fast break – Teagan Micah tips it out for a corner, which the Matildas deal with adequately, so the danger is clear for now.
And there’s another shot – that one’s by Kaka, a speculative header from the top of the box. Micah swallows that up too.
The visitors are well on top.

Raso shoots!
It’s from a long way out and the Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena has it covered, but there’s Australia’s first shot on target tonight – from the hometown girl Hayley Raso. Though the save is spilled, it’s quickly and easily recovered.

Kennedy looks proppy
That’s not ideal. Alanna Kennedy is reaching for her ankle after another recovery run in defence. She looks OK to continue but don’t be surprised if she’s yanked early; this game is not important enough to risk injury.
Now – here’s an early yellow card for Brazil’s Kaka, who was blatantly holding/tackling/harassing Caitlin Foord as she moved with the ball. Foord was frustrated and pushed her away once the whistle was blown. That caution should send an early message to Brazil, who probably got away with some roughhouse tactics in Brisbane.

Brazil makes a hot start
An early penalty shout there for Brazil after a raid down the left-hand side, Gabrielle was brought down in the box but the referee wasn’t interested at all.
But there’s Micah forced into action! Amanda Gutierres pounces on a loose ball and takes a first-time hit and it’s on target.
Now a corner… and another. Nothing comes from either… And there’s another shot from Angelina, from long range – it’s just wide of the far post!
Brazil mean business tonight.
