Match-ups, TV times, dates and venues: Full AFL pre-season match details confirmed

AFL clubs are entering the final stages of their respective pre-season campaigns, which means we’re just weeks away from seeing teams go at it on the field against each other.

Like previous years, there’ll be two weeks of practice matches, with club-organised ‘match simulations’ across February 18 to February 24, followed by a week of official AFL practice games from February 27 to March 3.

All games across both weeks will be live on Fox Footy, via Foxtel and Kayo Sports.

Opening Round

The competing clubs in match simulations will determine the format of their games, such as how long each quarter/period will go for and how many total periods there are. As teams can also determine their own squad sizes, many players will have their time capped, or be rotated out of matches at certain points.

For instance, Melbourne and Richmond’s match simulation at Casey Fields on February 18 will feature seven periods of play.

The community series, though, will see all teams play four-quarter matches, as per normal AFL rules.

The Dees and Tigers’ match simulation will be the first of nine across a week.

No team will travel interstate for their match simulations, meaning there’ll be five all-Victorian matches and four ‘derbies’ across Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

All 10 Victorian teams, as well as the Swans, Giants, Power and Crows, will again remain in their state for the community series, while the Lions, Suns, Dockers and Eagles will travel across their respective borders to play their matches.

All members and kids will be able to attend the AFL Community Series matches for free, with tickets to go on sale in February.

St Kilda and North Melbourne will play the final community series match before all eyes turn to the new-look Opening Round, which will see Sydney host Melbourne at the SCG for the season-opener.
