Manly eye off teenage star as potential DCE successor: Transfer Whispers

The Sea Eagles are reportedly eyeing off Tigers rising star Lachlan Galvin as a potential successor to veteran half Daly Cherry-Evans.

Galvin, who led Westfields Sports High to victory in the National Schoolboys Cup earlier this year, is a highly thought of playmaker who is set to join the Tigers’ Top-30 squad in 2024.

Galvin has been in the Tigers’ pathways programs for a few years now, winning a Harold Matthews Cup (u-16’s) with Wests Magpies in 2022.

Round 1

According to the WWOS, Galvin is on Manly’s wish list despite no formal talks having yet taken place, however the teenager does share the same manager (Isaac Moses) as Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold.

Cherry-Evans was a rare shining light in an underwhelming 2023 campaign from the Sea Eagles, indicating he still has some good football ahead of him.

However, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where the star halfback plays beyond his current deal with Manly which ends after the 2025 season.

Galvin meanwhile, is on a new three-year deal with the Tigers and could be given a chance to show what he can do at NRL level this season if the predicted Round 1 halves pairing of Aidan Sezer and Jayden Sullivan fail to fire.

However beyond 2024, the Tigers will have a glutton of options in the halves, meaning Galvin could be looking elsewhere for greater opportunity.

In addition to Sezer and Sullivan, another promising teenager in Latu Fainu joins the club from 2024, Panthers star Jarome Luai is set to sign a massive $6 million deal from 2025 while Adam Doueihi is due to return from an ACL injury towards the end of this season.
