Ross Lyon continues to firm as St Kilda’s number one target for its next senior coach, with club powerbrokers reportedly meeting with him a second time in as many days.
The Herald Sun’s Jay Clark reports that, after a four-hour meeting on Monday, St Kilda officials spoke in person with Lyon again for several hours on Tuesday.
Lyon is genuinely weighing up whether to return to the senior coaching ranks and to the club he led for five seasons before a messy departure at the end of 2011.

President tells how Ratten lost his job | 01:06
The report adds Lyon received strong endorsements from several former St Kilda and Fremantle players, with Dockers games-record holder David Mundy key among them.
In a further boost to Lyon’s stocks, lauded assistant coach Adem Yze is not part of St Kilda’s coaching search, according to 7 News reporter Tom Browne.
Yze has been desperately close to senior coaching jobs in the past only to be overlooked at the death.
Another figure of interest is Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge, who has one year remaining on his current contract and whose side is facing pressure externally to finish higher up the ladder in 2023.
Browne said some at the Bulldogs were “categoric that Luke Beveridge is happy and committed at the Kennel, not part of this St Kilda search”.
The Saints are expected to appoint their next senior coach within the next fortnight, capping an extraordinary month in which they sacked Brett Ratten with two years remaining on his contract.
Ratten’s dismissal follows an intense review of the club’s football department.
It is proving to be an off-season of considerable change for St Kilda off-field, with veteran administrator Geoff Walsh set to commence in his role as football manager at the start of November.
