VETERAN CAT SIDELINED AFTER QUAD BLOW
Geelong midfielder Cam Guthrie has learned his injury fate after succumbing to a right quadricep tendon ailment during the Cats’ match simulation against Carlton last Thursday.
The incident occurred in the opening moments of the contest, with medical assessments confirming the unfortunate news for the 31-year-old premiership midfielder.
“The prognosis indicates Cam will be sidelined for 8-10 weeks,” Cats General Manager of Football Andrew Mackie said in a Tuesday club statement.
“Cam is the ultimate professional who will attack his rehab diligently with the support of our medical team and we look forward to having back on the field in the early part of the season.”

EAGLES RECRUIT SUFFERS ‘REALLY UNIQUE’ SOFT-TISSUE SETBACK
West Coast recruit Matthew Flynn has undergone surgery to repair a damaged hamstring tendon.
Flynn, the 26-year-old former GWS Giant, suffered the injury during a ‘routine’ ruck drill last Friday, prior to the Eagles’ match simulation hitout against Fremantle.
“This is a really unique injury that experienced medical staff have rarely seen,” said Eagles football boss Gavin Bell in a club release on Monday.
“There have only been a couple of other cases similar to Matt’s injury in recent AFL history.
“Post surgery he will be on crutches for a short while before starting his recovery. The expected time before his return to play is between 10 and 12 weeks. Because of the unusual nature of the injury, unfortunately, we cannot be any more specific but look forward to a fit and healthy Matt returning to the field.”
PARKER SET FOR SURGERY AFTER MATCH SIM MISHAP
The Swans confirmed on Monday that Parker broke his arm in the final quarter of last week’s pre-season clash with GWS and had surgery on Friday.
A return to play timeline is set to be determined on Friday after the three-time best and fairest winner meets with specialists.
It continues a luckless pre-season for the Swans, with new captain Callum Mills undergoing shoulder surgery last September after damaging his rotator cuff while wrestling a teammate on Mad Monday.
Parker was a focal point of the Swans’ midfield in 2023, playing all games bar one.
The Swans will play Brisbane on Thursday in their final pre-season hitout before facing Melbourne in the opening round the following week.
Parker is 17 games away from reaching the 300-game milestone at the Swans.
