LIVE: World Cup spots on the line as Finch’s Aussies take on Windies in T20

Welcome to live coverage of the first T20 between Australia and the West Indies from Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast.First ball: 7:10pm AEDT

After three highly competitive matches in India, Aaron Finch’s men have returned to Australia and take on the West Indies on the Gold Coast on Wednesday night.

The mini series shapes as a significant one, with the World Cup just weeks away.

There are still plenty of questions surrounding the make-up of Australia’s squad from Finch himself to the middle order and what role Tim David could play.

Marcus Stoinis’ injury has thrown in another curve ball and will likely give David the chance to build on his half-century in the third T20 against India last month.

David Warner and Mitch Marsh return to the squad while the former won’t bowl in the squad as he continues to have his fitness managed.

Whether Cameron Green plays a part in the XI remains to be seen, with the star all-rounder not in Australia’s World Cup squad.

The West Indies were rocked earlier in the week when Shimron Hetmyer missed his flights and was subsequently dropped from the squad.

“Whilst we changed Shimron’s flight from Saturday to Monday due to family reasons, it was made clear to him that if there were any further delays and issues with his travel to Australia then we would have no choice but to replace him in the squad, “ Windies boss Jimmy Adams said.

“We are not prepared to compromise the team’s ability to prepare for this extremely important global event.”
