LIVE: Titmus faces toughest test yet as 16yo, swimming legend set for all-time World Champs race

Ariarne Titmus will look to reassert her dominance as the queen of the 400m Freestyle as she takes on Katie Ledecky and Summer McIntosh at the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

Titmus, who won the gold medal in the Women’s 400m Freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics, also had set the world record time of 3:56:40.

However McIntosh, a 16-year-old from Canada, knocked Titmus off her perch when she touched the wall at 3:56:08 at the Canadian trials in Toronto on March 28.

It has set up what promises to be a salivating race in Fukuoka as Titmus, McIntosh and Ledecky, the reigning world champion, go at it.

Although McIntosh now holds the world record, Titmus holds somewhat of a psychological advantage given she beat the Canadian teen in Tokyo and at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

But McIntosh has already cemented herself as the name to watch in women’s freestyle given what she has accomplished at a remarkably young age.

American superstar Ledecky cannot be overlooked, either.

Considered one of, if not the greatest female swimmer of all-time, Ledecky will be looking to prove she is still at the top of her game after losing out to Titmus in Tokyo.

There will be extra intrigue in the race given the Paris Olympics are just one year away, with all three certain to be pushing for the gold medal.
