Star spinner Mitchell Swepson will be hoping to push his case for a Test re-call when his Brisbane Heat host the Sydney Thunder in the first of a Thursday night BBL double-header.
With the pitch for the SCG Test expected to favour spin, a strong showing from Swepson, who took 10 wickets from four Tests in Pakistan and Sri Lanka earlier this year, might be enough to convince selectors he could partner Nathan Lyon against South Africa.
But Swepson and his teammates will need a new plan of attack after they were smashed by the Thunder on Tuesday.

The bottom-of-the-table Heat were restricted to 6-121 from their 20 overs before Thunder openers Alex Hales (59 not out from 36 balls) and player of the match Matthew Gilkes (56 from 34) guided their team to a stunning 10-wicket victory.
The match gets underway from the Gold Coast at 6.05pm (AEDT).
