LIVE: Boxing star to make rival pay over call-out in title fight as Aussie gears up for US debut

Shakur Stevenson declared he is ready to “answer the phone call” from Edwin De Los Santos and “beat him up” as the two prepare to throw down for the WBC lightweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Also featuring on the card is Australian heavyweight Jackson Murray, who makes his overseas debut against Steven Torres.

So too is Emanuel Navarrete, who controversially beat Aussie contender Liam Wilson in February, who defends his WBO super featherweight title against Robson Conceicao.

The fight marks Stevenson’s second at lightweight after stopping Shuichiro Yoshino on his debut back in April and he’s wasting little time in looking to collect world titles in the division.

But he takes on De Los Santos, a man who has knocked out his opponent in 14 of his 16 wins.

Despite his rival boasting serious power in his fists, Stevenson is not fussed about what his rival brings to the table and promised to make De Los Santos pay for calling him out.

“Edwin De Los Santos is someone who has been calling my name,” Stevenson told FightHype.

“He’s been pulling a me on me. I respect it, but now I have to answer the phone call. He called me out and went to my video and made a video. He kind of said my name in it, and he was calling me out.

“I don’t take it personally. I’m just ready to beat him up for it.

“I’m going in there to be myself. I’m not worried about anything else.”

Should Stevenson get past De Los Santos, he has made no secret about the man he’d like to face next: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Both men remain undefeated, although Davis holds a significantly better knockout rate over Stevenson having finished his opponent on 27 occasions from 29 wins compared to Stevenson’s 10 knockouts from 20 wins.

Yet Stevenson dreams of facing Davis in a bout he believes would be “the best fight in boxing right now.”

“I think that’s the biggest fight in the world,” Stevenson told BoxingScene.com.

“I think that when it happens it needs to be promoted and put out there like that.

“I think that me and him is two of the best fighters in the world. And honestly, I just feel like it should be worldwide.

“That’ll be the best fight in boxing right now, if you ask me.”
