The Thunder need to beat the Stars to qualify for the BBL12 finals after the Heat threw a spanner in the works on the final day of the regular season.
The Sydney Thunder, who are coming off a nightmare loss to cross-town rival the Sixers, require nothing less than a victory over the Melbourne Stars at the MCG on Wednesday evening to book their spot in the Big Bash League finals.

Hurricanes v Heat Match Highlights | 03:54
But if the Stars emerge victorious, the Thunder’s campaign is over, after the Heat lost an unloseable game to the Hurricanes earlier on the final day of the regular season.
The Thunder welcome back captain Jason Sangha, who underwent surgery on his collarbone following a shoulder injury against the Melbourne Renegades earlier this season.
“It’s been a bit of a roller coaster season,” stand-in skipper Chris Green said this week.
“Some our performances have been really good at times, and really poor at times. (We’ve) probably lacked a bit of consistency which we’ve had in previous years.
“But if we win (on Wednesday) we’re a massive chance at playing Knock Out and defeating some of the top teams.
“We like a bit of underdog status. When the chips are down a lot of players tend to stand up, and that’s certainly going to be the message, and the hope, for Wednesday as well. If you get the opportunity with bat or ball to win the game for your team, grab it with both hands.”
The first ball at the MCG is scheduled for 7.15pm AEDT.
