Brisbane coach Chris Fagan says there’ll be “no excuses” when his side take on a battered Carlton outfit for a spot in the 2023 grand final on Saturday night.
The Lions haven’t needed to leave their Gabba fortress this finals campaign – a venue where they are yet to lose a game in season 2023.
But the pressure is squarely on the home side, given this is now their fifth consecutive finals series and they don’t have a grand final appearance to show for it.

Two preliminary final losses in the past four years has many questioning coach Chris Fagan’s end-of-year methods.
But the man himself is adamant this is his side’s best opportunity.
“We’ve won three of our last four, so I’m not worried about our finals form,” he said.
“You grow through your regrets and no doubt our players have regrets of making prelim finals and not being able to get to the next step.
“You learn through your disappointments.”

Brisbane will take on a Carlton outfit with nothing to lose after coming from the bottom four late in the season to storm into finals as one of the most in-form teams.
And they regain forward duo Harry McKay and Jack Martin for the clash against the Lions who are missing star defender Jack Payne.
This match gets underway at 5.15pm AEST from the Gabba.
Watch it live on Fox Footy (channel 504) from 4pm AEST.
