LIVE AFL: Dons skipper celebrates 200th game as Geelong out to avoid shock 33-year first

Essendon are hoping to give skipper Zach Merrett a 200th game to remember as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face Geelong.

The clash will be just the third time the Bombers have played at GMHBA Stadium in 30 years, with Merrett’s side hoping to win their first game at the venue since Round 18 in 1990.

Essendon go into the contest on the back of a strong 18-point victory over Adelaide which helped keep them stay ahead of the chasing pack for the top eight.

As for the Cats, they are unbeaten in three and possess a strong record at home, having lost just twice all season long.

Geelong already have one win over Essendon this season in a 236-point contest, with the former running out 28-point victors.

But the Bombers and Merrett will be desperate to avoid a similar fate this time around and subsequently end a 33-year wait for a victory at GMHBA Stadium.

QUARTER-BY-QUARTER MATCH REPORT

There were no late changes for either side, with Oisin Mullin (Cats) and Nick Hind (Bombers) named the starting subs.
