Melbourne (7-4, 133.9%) entered the year with much external hype, but has lost it past two matches.

Carlton (4-6-1, 96.7%) is yet to record a win since its round seven thumping of West Coast, including a loss to the injury-ravaged Sydney Swans last week.

There were no late changes for either side, with James Harmes (Melbourne) and Paddy Dow (Carlton) the starting subs. Dow, who’s been in tremendous form at VFL level averaging 31.7 disposals, was named for his first AFL game of the season and first since Round 22, 2022.
