Lachie Galvin named to play NSW Cup for Wests Magpies

Lachie Galvin has been included on the final team sheet to play for Wests Magpies in the NSW Cup match against Parramatta that kicks of at noon.

Rather than feature for the Wests Tigers’ NRL side against Parramatta at a packed-out CommBank Stadium at 4pm, Galvin will be down the road at Lidcombe Oval playing reserve grade.

The 19-year-old has become the biggest story in rugby league after it emerged he informed the Tigers he would not be at the club beyond the 2026 season.

Galvin was quickly dropped to the NSW Cup, only for his management to then fire off a legal letter, claiming the youngster was being bullied and had not been provided with a safe working environment.

There were fears Galvin would be a late withdrawal from the NSW Cup game because of those concerns for his well-being – but he will play.

Tigers coach Benji Marshall will not be at the game because the NRL game is being played later today. Several Tigers staffers, however, will be in attendance.

Marshall said on Thursday last week that he felt “sorry” for Galvin, but was adamant there was not a bullying culture at the Tigers and that the young five-eighth would not only return to the NRL with the club, but see out the remaining 18 months of his deal.

Parramatta are seen as the favourites to land Galvin’s services. The two halves he will come up against at Lidcombe Oval – Ronnie Volkman and Dean Hawkins – are the pair who will likely lose out should the Eels swoop on the kid who grew up supporting the blue and golds.
