Josh Hazlewood released and Cameron Green traded in $3.1m Indian Premier League deal

World Cup champion Josh Hazlewood has been released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore while Australian teammate Cameron Green has reportedly been traded in a $3.15 million deal.

On Sunday, the Bangalore franchise confirmed it had released 11 cricketers ahead of December’s Indian Premier League Auction, including Australian pace bowler Hazlewood.

The 32-year-old, who won an IPL title with the Chennai Super Kings in 2021, was snapped up by the Royal Challengers the following year for AU$1.45 million but only played three matches this year due to an Achilles heel injury.

“I’ve just come off the phone with Josh,” Bangalore head coach Andy Flower explained in a video uploaded to Twitter on Sunday.

“He, very pleasingly, has a baby on the way, due at the end of March.

“So Josh won’t be with us, certainly not for the first half of the season.”

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians have traded Green to the Royal Challengers in an all-cash deal reported to be worth AUS$3.1 million.

According to several media outlets, including ESPNcricinfo and Cricbuzz, the 24-year-old will join Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell at Bangalore next season after Mumbai offloaded the all-rounder to increase its purse for the upcoming Auction.

Green scored 452 runs at 50.22 with a strike rate of 160.28 for Mumbai this year, blasting a century against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to book the franchise’s spot in the finals series.

The West Australian kissed the Mumbai Indians logo on his helmet after reaching triple figures at Wankhede Stadium.

Elsewhere, the Lucknow Super Giants have released Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams, while the Mumbai Indians decided not to retain pace duo Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith.

The IPL Auction will take place in Dubai on December 19.
