James Jordon keen to move north as Dees free agent makes call on AFL future

Melbourne James Jordon has made his free agency call, nominating Sydney as his preferred footy destination for the 2024 AFL season.

Jordon last week reportedly told the Demons he wanted to exercise his free agency rights after 65 games across five seasons.

Sydney, Essendon, St Kilda, Carlton and the Western Bulldogs had all been linked to Jordon throughout the year.

After playing 47 games across the 2021 and 2022 seasons — including the Demons’ 2021 Grad Final triumph as the unused sub — Jordon struggled to cement his spot in Melbourne’s starting 22 in 2023. He either started as the sub or was ultimately subbed out in eight of his 18 games.

Despite being taken in the 2018 draft, Jordon is eligible for free agency as the Demons delisted the on-baller then re-rookied him in 2020.

The Swans are also expected to land contracted Melbourne ruck Brodie Grundy in this year’s trade period.
