‘It’s almost unfair’: Latrell’s big advantage; Cleary’s ‘unusual’ moments — Players Ratings

Australia blitzed past Lebanon 48-4 to book their spot in the semi-finals as winger Josh Addo-Carr scored five tries.

The Kangaroos were in control from start to finish and rested captain James Tedesco for the second half, which saw Daly Cherry-Evans play 40 minutes.

The Cedars pulled one back when a Cameron Munster mistake allowed Josh Mansour to score off a Mitchell Moses grubber.

Australia extended their own record to 16 straight World Cup wins and now face a likely showdown with New Zealand in the semi-final, should they get past Fiji.

Dolphins take cheeky dig at Munster | 01:23

JAMES TEDESCO – 7.5

The skipper set up the second try after making a break down the right edge and finding Addo-Carr back on the inside to score.

It was Tedesco’s fourth straight game of the tournament so he sat out the second half after picking up a cork but still finished with 96 metres from nine carries and three tackle busts.

VALENTINE HOLMES – 7.5

Dropped an early bomb but was it was ruled backwards and quickly made up for it with his runs out of yardage.

Holmes didn’t dominate the scoresheet like Addo-Carr but he still ran for 204 metres from 16 carries and had two tackle busts.

LATRELL MITCHELL – 7

Set up the first try of the match for Addo-Carr with a nice draw and pass and scored the fourth try after bulldozing over Josh Mansour.

“It’s almost unfair when Mitchell gets there and moves. He is one of the most damaging players in the game of rugby league,” Andrew Voss said in commentary.

Got tackled out early in the game and also knocked on with a try there for the taking on the stroke of halftime.

JACK WIGHTON – 6

Took on the line and ran with plenty of vigour but struggled to find rhythm and really leave his mark on the game.

Wighton finished with 97 metres from 11 runs and made 12 tackles and may not have done enough to hold onto his spot for the semis.

JOSH ADDO-CARR – 10

The Kangaroos flyer crossed for an incredible five tries in another sensational performance on the left wing.

Addo-Carr scored the first three tries of the match to have a hat-trick inside 20 minutes and then picked up where he left off in the second half.

The speedster was everywhere, either backing up breaks on the inside or putting himself in the perfect position to score in the corner.

Tries in the 43rd and 59th minutes equalled the knockout stages record Val Holmes set at the last World Cup. Addo-Carr has scored 11 tries in three games at this year’s tournament.

CAMERON MUNSTER – 6

Set up Addo-Carr’s third try with a one-on-one steal before off-loading to his winger who scored in the corner.

“It’s almost not fair. The number of strips, he’s had almost 20 in his NRL career.” Voss said.

Munster knocked on in the 27th minute and again in the 36th after a crunching tackle from Josh Mansour.

Moved to fullback in the second half and failed to clear a ball in the in-goal which allowed Lebanon to score.

NATHAN CLEARY – 6

Put a bomb out on the full after two minutes to give Lebanon its first attacking opportunity and missed three of his first four conversions.

“Well, that’s a nervous start from Nathan Cleary. That is most unusual,” Andrew Voss said on Fox League.

“There is something wrong with Nathan Cleary’s strike of the ball. That is just not seen in the NRL from Nathan Cleary.”

JAKE TRBOJEVIC – 6

A quiet game by his standards but still made 22 tackles and made 59 metres from seven runs.

HARRY GRANT – 7.5

Controlled kicking early, played big minutes and was sharp out of dummy-half.

Grant set up Cameron Murray’s second try, made 35 tackles and five tackle busts in his 50 metres from five runs.

TINO FA’ASUMALEAUI – 6

A quiet performance, ran for 56 metres from six carries and made 10 tackles.

ANGUS CRICHTON – 7.5

Burst through the middle in the 30th minute from 40 metres out then off-loaded for Murray to score next to the posts.

Crichton finished with 79 metres from seven carries, four tackle busts, two off-loads and a linebreak.

LIAM MARTIN – 7

ISAAH YEO – 8.5

Made a break through the middle in the 23rd minute which led to Australia’s fourth try, scored by Mitchell.

Yeo ran for 142 metres from 10 carries, also had two tackle busts and a linebreak to his name – and made 35 tackles.

Bench

DALY CHERRY-EVANS – 6.5

Came on at five-eighth to start the second half after Tedesco was rested and Munster went to fullback.

DCE didn’t make any mistakes but didn’t light the world on fire and will struggle to hold his spot on the bench.

PATRICK CARRIGAN – 7

A solid performance off the bench, ran for 97 metres from 10 carries and made 10 tackles.
