Injury scares sour pre-season training as star duo put on ice

A couple of injury scares have marred pre-season training for West Coast and Richmond.

Number one draft pick Harley Reid had onlookers nervous after dropping to the turf and grabbing at his right leg and limping from the training ground.

Nine News reported Reid had suffered a suspected corked thigh rather than a significant injury blow.

Reid’s injury scare was the latest setback for the Eagles, with second-round draftee Archer Reid and veteran Dom Sheed also on modified programs after injuries.

For the Tigers, three-time Norm Smith medallist Dustin Martin was left with a cut to his chin following a collision during the club’s training camp in Wonthaggi.

“Dustin Martin left the training track today following a collision during the club’s session in Wonthaggi,” the Tigers told Nine News Melbourne on Wednesday.

“He required treatment for a cut to his chin and will be monitored.”

Martin will in 2024 enter the final year of a lucrative contract, at the end of which he’ll become an unrestricted free agent.
