Dragons captain Ben Hunt has agreed to terms on a two-year extension to stay at the club until the end of 2025.
One of the NRL’s most intriguing contract sagas has finally been put to bed with Hunt, who finished behind Nicho Hynes and James Tedesco in the Dally M race, telling the club he will sign a contract before flying out with the Kangaroos for the World Cup on Thursday.
The 32-year-old’s signature was considered crucial to the hopes of St George Illawarra returning to the top eight. After months of negotiations, the Queensland State of Origin star has resisted going to the open market.
Hunt had met Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould about a potential switch to Canterbury and would have been able to field offers from November 1.
The Dragons are expected to trumpet Hunt’s re-signing before he leaves with the Kangaroos for the World Cup in the UK.
