Well Jason Cummings seems to have cheekily caused a stir in France.
And Olivier Giroud’s response to it was perfect.
Days after Cummings claimed the French superstar pretended he couldn’t speak English to avoid a shirt swap with him at the World Cup, Giroud has delivered an elite response, sharing a photo of another Socceroos jersey he’d picked up.

Cummings earlier this week told Channel 10’s The Project he’d attempted to swap his jersey with Kylian Mbappe after Australia’s 4-1 loss to France in their World Cup opener. And when that plan fell through, the 27-year-old turned to Giroud, who “just walked past me, pretended he never spoke English”.
But on Thursday night, Giroud cheekily provided his side of the story.
Giroud shared an image on his Twitter account of a Socceroos jersey belonging to Cummings’ teammate, Jackson Irvine, that he seems to have collected in Doha.
“Hi @jacksonirvine_ how is my English mate?” Giroud wrote on Twitter alongside several laughing emojis.
Giroud’s tweet comes after Cummings shared his World Cup experience on Channel 10.
“After the France game, I actually tried to get Mbappe – forget Giroud, I went for the top boy Mbappe – and he told me to meet him in the change rooms,” he said on The Project this week.

“So I went to the changing room and the kit man was there and I gave him my top and 10 minutes later he came out with my jersey and says: ‘Nah, absolutely not, (Mbappe) doesn’t want to swap’.
So when I was walking back to my change room and I’ve seen Giroud and I’m walking, as handsome as ever, and I asked him, ‘Giroud, please man, can I get your shirt man? I’m a big fan, can I get your shirt?’
“And he just walked past me, pretended he never spoke English! And he’s been in the Premier League for 10 years! (laughing).
“He just walked right past me!”

Cummings could only laugh off his encounter with the French superstar duo.
Speaking after Argentina’s World Cup triumph over France, Cummings joked he played a part in superstar Lionel Messi’s incredible performance after giving him a pre-game shout-out via Instagram.
“I think I deserve a lot of credit (for Messi’s World Cup showing) – he’s definitely checked his phone just before, he’s seen the Cumdog pop up on his Instagram there,” he laughed.
“He’s checked that and it just gave him that extra motivation.”
