‘His work is outstanding’: Skipper wants Celtic to keep Ange ‘as long we can’ amid shock Chelsea link

Celtic skipper Callum McGregor insists he wants the club to keep hold of Ange Postecoglou “as long as we can” amid recent reports linking the Australian with a shock switch to Chelsea.

A report in The Guardianclaimed Postecoglou was the mystery man on the Premier League giants’ four-man shortlist to fill the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

The shortlist also reportedly featured managerial heavyweights Mauricio Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann as well as Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.

However, Kompany refused to entertain the speculation and Nagelsmann has reportedly pulled out of the running over concerns with Chelsea’s project.

It leaves Pochettino as the clear favourite with Postecoglou also reportedly in the mix.

Yet McGregor doesn’t want to see the Hoops boss go anywhere any time soon.

“His work speaks for itself, the style that he plays, the attacking and amount of goals that we score,” McGregor said.

“That’s going to get the people talking, but I think Ange’s full focus is going to be on the job at hand here, and as long as we can keep him we will be delighted.

The Chelsea links are just another sign of the esteem in which Postecoglou is now held, as the former Socceroos boss was also reported to be a contender in the race for the Tottenham Hotspur vacancy.

However, Postecoglou must first take care of business in Scotland as Celtic hunt back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles as well as the Scottish FA Cup to complete the treble.
