Nathan Ellis took a hattrick for the Hobart Hurricanes on Sunday, but the cricket world isn’t convinced the 28-year-old knew what he’d accomplished in Tasmania.
Ellis dismissed Sydney Thunder opener Matt Gilkes with the final ball of his first over and then followed up with the wickets of Ollie Davies and Nathan McAndrew with his next two balls, which came 10 overs later.
A subdued celebration from Ellis had many onlookers convinced he didn’t realise he’d achieved the feat.

“I don’t know if he knows he’s got a hattrick here,” Fox Cricket’s Brett Lee said.
Fox Cricket’s Dan Ginnane agreed, adding: “That’s not a hattrick celebration.”
“We need to keep the camera on him because at some point someone will tell him, ‘you’ve bowled a hat trick.’”
Ellis then had a chance to take a double hattrick, but was thwarted by Chris Green.
His hattrick makes him just the ninth player to achieve the feat in BBL history.
