Former Rabbitohs player dies after motorcycle crash in Cook Islands

Four days after Queensland State of Origin star Carl Webb lost his battle with motor neurone disease, the rugby league community is in mourning again after the death of former South Sydney NRL player Troy Dargan.

In a statement issued today, Dargan’s management group, Aria, said the 26-year-old footballer had died after a motorcycle accident in the Cook Islands, where he was holidaying with family.

“On behalf of the Dargan family, it is with a heavy heart that we share the news of TJ’s tragic passing overnight,” the statement said.

“He and his family were holidaying in the Cook Islands, where TJ was involved in a motorcycle accident. TJ was not only an Aria Sports Group client but a long-time friend and great mate.

“He is currently a Canberra Raider and formerly a member of Manly Sea Eagles, Souths Rabbitohs, Brisbane Broncos and Parramatta Eels. TJ is a beloved son to Troy and Wendy, loving brother to Tamalee and Korokai, and friend to many, many others.

“The family have asked for privacy at this very devastating time. TJ will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Dargan spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Rabbitohs, playing two NRL games at five-eighth in 2020. This year the Cook Islands international was under contract to Manly before joining Canberra for the 2024 season.
