Exciting and unbeaten UK-bred colt Field Marshal returns to the track at the feature Hawkesbury meeting today ready to take the first step on a carefully charted course towards black-type success in autumn.
The son of Kingman out of the unraced Galileo mare Flight To Fancy won both starts last spring for the John Thompson stable at Randwick but has been transferred to the all-conquering Chris Waller yard.
He made a somewhat low-key debut in October at Canberra, where he easily beat a handy maiden field. He was ridden from the back next start at Wyong and flooded home to claim a class 1 win.
The form out of those wins is strong, and he is primed to roar up the grades after being given time to strengthen and develop.
Field Marshal had a quiet trial at Rosehill 18 days ago and will be fitted to run out 1400m fresh in a competitive benchmark 64 for the boys. Connections are likely to make a bold bid for some of the feature three-year-old metropolitan races over further in autumn if all goes to plan.
The Waller stable will test the autumn credentials of another newcomer in a maiden over 1400m at set weights. French-bred three-year-old colt Dakarai has his first run in NSW since being transferred from the Wendy Kelly stable down south at Cranbourne.
He has not started since a fast-finishing second at Sale in early October but has reportedly put on plenty of strength since making the move north and looks set for a big return off an easy trial at Rosehill.
Dakarai comes through a respected northern hemisphere breeding line. He is a son of French galloper Siyouni, which in turn was by superstar sprinter Pivotal.
