The Boomers made history at the Tokyo Olympics by claiming their first medal. Can they do the same at this year’s FIBA World Cup?
Australia is in a tough group alongside Finland, Germany and Japan and even if the Boomers get through to the second round, there is plenty of stiff competition to overcome.
“I think as a coach we’ve drawn a really, really tough pool,” Boomers coach Brian Goorjian said on Thursday.
“But you’ve got to beat these teams to get to where you want to go, but our pool I don’t think there is one stronger.”
The Boomers begin their World Cup journey against Finland on Friday night.

Of course, Team USA remains the heavy favourite to go all the way but Canada also has plenty of star power while Spain, Slovenia, Germany and France will be among those contending.
