Former Wallabies star Berrick Barnes has joined Australia’s coaching staff as a part-time kicking consultant.
Barnes, who represented Australian in 51 Tests between 2007 and 2013 and started his career in the NRL with Brisbane, is among a handful of fresh faces who have been brought into the Wallabies’ set-up for this year’s Rugby Championship and World Cup by recently appointed national coach Eddie Jones.
London Irish assistant coach Brad Davis, 55, will assist Jones in coaching the Wallabies’ attack, while ACT Brumbies assistant and ex-Wallabies prop Dan Palmer has been appointed as lineout coach.
Palmer will work with forwards co-ordinator Neal Hatley, who will join the staff once his commitments with Bath are completed at the end of the English Premiership season.
As announced in February, former NSW State of Origin rugby league fullback Brett Hodgson is Australia’s defence coach.
Frenchman Pierre-Henry Broncan has been appointed as a maul consultant, while England’s former head of strength and conditioning Jon Clarke will take up a similar role with the Wallabies and be assisted by Nigel Ashley-Jones, who has previously worked with the Canberra Raiders.
John Pryor returns to the Wallabies program as a speed consultant, while Warrick Harrington will continue his role as sport scientist.
“We believe we have a quality coaching staff to plan and prepare the team for a smash and grab campaign – winning the Bledisloe Cup and finishing winning the Rugby World Cup.” Jones said.
“It is experienced, diverse and adaptable – ready to smash and grab.”
