European Team of the Week: Casemiro at CB, Sørloth hits four

Goalkeeper: Álex Remiro (Real Sociedad) – 9.04 rating

Real Sociedad claimed an impressive 2-0 win at Real Betis on Sunday with Remiro playing his part in the victory. The 29-year-old made nine saves in total, including a second-half penalty stop to deny Abde Ezzalzouli.

Centre-back: Jarell Quansah (Liverpool) – 8.62

Quansah scored the record-breaking 1,223rd goal of the Premier League season in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Wolves in Jürgen Klopp’s final game in charge. The 21-year-old also found a teammate with ease as he returned a 90.5% success rate from 74 passes at Anfield.

Centre-back: Riccardo Calafiori (Bologna) – 9.14

Bologna played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Juventus on Monday night, a stalemate in which Calafiori netted his first and second league goals of the season. The Italian also returned a 100% success rate for his passes against the Old Lady, and made two tackles and one interception.

Centre-back: Casemiro (Manchester United) – 8.73

Casemiro has come under criticism in recent weeks but excelled out of position in a 2-0 win at Brighton. Indeed, the 32-year-old Brazilian made six tackles, five clearances and blocked five shots in a superb rearguard display.

Right midfield: Eren Dinkci (FC Heidenheim) – 9.37

Heidenheim ended a fine debut Bundesliga campaign on a high as they defeat Cologne 4-1 on the final day of the season. Dinkçi scored his ninth and 10th league goals of 2023-24 from five shots in the win, while the young winger also completed five dribbles.

Central midfield: Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) – 10.0

Palace saw out the season with an excellent 5-0 home win over Aston Villa on Sunday, with Eze the star. He scored with two of five shots and provided one assist. An additional five tackles capped a memorable afternoon for the 25-year-old.

Central midfield: Andrej Kramaric (Hoffenheim) 10.0

Kramaric saw out the season in style on Saturday as Hoffenheim smashed Bayern 4-2 on home turf. The Croatian was directly involved in all four goals, netting with three of six shots and providing one assist from three key passes. He also completed four dribbles and gave Bayern the runaround.

Left midfield: Jan-Niklas Beste (FC Heidenheim) – 8.72

Beste was directly involved in two of their four goals against Cologne at the weekend. He scored with his only shot and provided one assist from three key passes. The 25-year-old also gave as good as he got, having been fouled seven times, and made four tackles in the 4-1 win.

Striker: Alexander Sørloth (Villarreal) – 10.0

Sørloth scored all four Villarreal goals as they drew 4-4 with champions Real Madrid. The Norway striker managed nine shots in total, a record in a LaLiga match this season, as he moved into first in the race for the Pichichi [top scorer] award.

Striker: Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace) – 9.95

A player reborn under Oliver Glasner, Mateta was directly involved in four of Crystal Palace’s five goals against Aston Villa on Sunday. The forward netted with all three shots on goal, while his one assist came from two key passes.

Striker: Serhou Guirassy (VfB Stuttgart) – 9.63

VfB Stuttgart leapfrogged Bayern Munich into second place on the final day of the Bundesliga season with Guirassy vital in Saturday’s 4-0 mauling of Gladbach. The in-demand striker scored with two of three shots and laid on one assist from three key passes.
