Lightweight and emergency Durston has caused a boilover in the Caulfield Cup, claiming the 2400m handicap by pipping top weight Gold Trip on the finishing post.
Trained by Chris Waller, Durston paid $18 for the win.
A photo finish decided determined third-placed horse, with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Knights Order edging out Montefilia.
Durston surged up the middle of the Caulfield straight to beat out Gold Trip at the last moment.
Crowd favourite Benaud, a nod to former cricketing great and commentator Richie Benaud, spent most of the race at the back of the pack and failed to make ground on the leaders.
