Veteran St George Illawarra hooker Andrew McCullough has retired from the NRL with a year remaining on his contract.
McCullough, 32, told his Dragons teammates on Thursday he would be hanging up the boots, according to sources familiar with the situation.
One of the most respected players in the game, McCullough became just the 44th player to register 300 top grade games earlier this year.
He joins Bulldogs legend Josh Jackson in retiring during the off-season with another 12 months to run on his existing deal.
The move will pave the way for St George Illawarra to use former Tigers hooker Jacob Liddle in the No.9 role while Jayden Sullivan, who withdrew a request for an immediate release from his contract after Ben Hunt’s re-signing, will potentially see more NRL action at dummy half this year.
