Dragons drop Lomax in bid to snap four-game losing streak

St George Illawarra has dropped Zac Lomax in a bid to snap a four-game losing streak.

Under-pressure coach Anthony Griffin has pulled the trigger on one of his highest-paid players ahead of his side’s Magic Round clash against Wests Tigers on Sunday.

Lomax had a mixed bag in the Dragons’ loss to Canterbury, scoring a try, running for a team-high 182 metres and earning a try assist, as well as making some uncharacteristic errors. His place in the backline is set to be taken by Mikaele Ravalawa, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Lomax is one of the most naturally gifted players in the NRL and was spoken about as a potential NSW selection only a few seasons ago. The centre is contracted longer than any other player on the Red V’s books, until the end of 2026.

Griffin, off contract at the end of the season, is unlikely to be retained beyond this season, but needs wins to ensure he sees it out. The club has already informed him it will go to market for alternative coaching options.
