Doyle’s strong double chance in Hawkesbury maiden
By Nick Berney

Trainer Nathan Doyle appears to have the Irresistible Pools & Spas Provincial Maiden Plate (1300m) at his mercy, where he saddles up the two market fancies in Edge Of Reward and Cosmic Field at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

Doyle has a good career record at the track, where he has had 37 runners for 10 winners at a 25 per cent profit on turnover.

Edge Of Reward, who has been a model of consistency all preparation, opened favourite in early markets.

The four-year-old had all the favours last start at Newcastle but was honest in defeat, finishing second, and he beat the rest easily.

Further, the winner of that race, Wrathful, has confirmed the form after a recent dominant win.

He brings a strong starting price profile, is at optimal fitness, and the wide draw is of little concern as he has the natural speed to cross his opponents.

Stablemate Cosmic Field is a nice type and won a recent heat at Newcastle under light riding. Additionally, the time was solid relative to the morning and he went through the line full of energy.

The debutant is wound up to run boldly first-up, has a favourable map and is a key late market watch.

The Benchmark 64 Handicap (1500m) event to finish the card brings multiple different form lines and numerous chances.

Rosovo, who represents value, is set to peak third-up after a slashing run last start over the same track/distance.

The Godolphin galloper started a $4 favourite but got too far back in the run. Moreover, he kept building to the line, and all key indicators suggest he can improve again.

The gelding has a tricky race setup, but the anticipated genuine tempo will give him his chance and he brings a competitive ratings profile.

Tenderize looms as a main danger after a strong win last start.

The three-year-old finally struck a dry surface, stepped out to a preferred distance range and was too slick for his rivals leading all the way.

He must contend with a tricky gate but expect an aggressive ride early and repeating his last start effort/figure can put him in the finish.

Best Bet: Race 2 No.8 – Let’s Try
Next Best: Race 6 No.2 – Kingdom Of Gold
Best Value: Race 8 No.3 – Rosovo and No.13 – Tenderize
