DOLPHINS SET TO POACH COWBOYS’ ORIGIN STAR

The Dolphins are set to sign out of favour Cowboys flyer Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow on a lucrative three-year deal, but haven’t given up hope of luring Dragons young gun Tyrell Sloan as well.

The Daily Telegraph reported Wayne Bennett has successfully lured Tabuai-Fidow to the Dolphins for their inaugural season in 2023 pending a release from the final year of his Cowboys deal.

The Dolphins are set to announce the signing of the Cowboys star on a three-year contract through until 2025 once his release from the Cowboys has been finalised.

The 21-year-old started the 2022 season as the Cowboys’ fullback, before an injury opened the door for Scott Drinkwater to cement the No.1 jersey.

Tabuai-Fidow could only manage a bench role for the remainder of the season once he returned from injury in a frustrating year, despite the club’s successful run to the preliminary final.

However, the Dolphins still hold out hopes of signing Sloan, despite the Dragons rejecting his release request form the final two years of his deal.

The Dolphins view Sloan as a potential centre, with Tabuai-Fidow likely to get first crack at the fullback role.

Drinkwater signed a monster extension with the Cowboys through until the end of 2027, so Tabuai-Fidow saw the writing on the wall.

Tabuai-Fidow wants to play fullback and saw his path blocked by Drinkwater at the Cowboys and is seeking a release to move to the Dolphins long-term.

The man they call “The Hammer” has scored 21 tries in 50 games for the Cowboys since his debut in 2020 and played one Origin for Queensland in 2021.

After missing on so many fullback options including Kalyn Ponga and Reece Walsh, the Dolphins look to finally have a player with genuine speed to fill one of the most important positions on the field.
