Melbourne defender Christian Salem has been moved to a modified training program after discovering a thyroid concern.
Salem has suffered a similar ailment in the past, which can impact a person’s heartrate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight.
The Dees confirmed on Monday that Salem’s history aided him with early detection and the 27-year-old is now working with a specialist alongside the club’s medical team.

“Christian is currently undergoing treatment for an illness resulted to his thyroid gland,” Melbourne medical boss Dr Laura Lallanec said.
“Christian has had a similar issue in the past where his thyroid becomes overactive.
“He will continue to be monitored closely by his specialist and reintegrate into training as his thyroid levels stabilise.”
Salem missed a large chunk of the 2022 season after a knee injury.
He proved a vital part of the club’s 2021 premiership side, with his razor-sharp disposal efficiency helping set up counter-attacks.
The Dees will take on St Kilda and Richmond in their 2023 pre-season matches.
