BEDFORD REQUESTS TRADE TO GIANTS

Melbourne forward Toby Bedford has requested a trade to the GWS Giants, report Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary.

It comes after Bedford’s lack of opportunities at the Demons this season, playing eight senior games in addition to eight additional appearances as the unused medical sub.

Melbourne had a three-year deal on the table for the 22-year old, while Essendon has also been circling the speedster.

But the Giants have now won the race for his signature as a replacement for Bobby Hill in attack to partner with Toby Greene.

Bedford was drafted by the Dees as an Academy selection with Pick 75 in the 2018 draft. He’s played 18 senior games (eight as unused medical sub) since making his debut in 2020.

He played in the Casey Demons’ VFL grand final win over Southport.

FORMER COACH URGES ROOS TO SPLIT PICK 1

Former North Melbourne coach David Noble has called for the club to split its Pick 1 for two first-round selections in a bid to fast-track its rebuild.

The Roos currently hold the first overall selection after finishing on the bottom of the ladder for a second-straight season in a year where Noble was sacked mid-season. However North doesn’t have picks between No. 1 and No. 55 after trading its future selections last year.

And with the Roos set to miss out on likely Pick 1 Will Ashcroft, who’s tied to Brisbane as a father-son selection, Noble believes they should instead bolster their overall draft hand.

“I’ve always been an advocate for the split, I think that the picks are a bit overvalued to be honest at times, the North pick this year, I would absolutely split it, 100 per cent,” he said on AFL Trade Radio.

“The reason being, you’re not going to get the best kid in the country, Ashcroft, you’re not getting number one.”

“The way I look at it, you’ve got pick two, so split pick two and take as many picks as you can.”

It comes as North has been granted future draft picks as part of a special assistance package from the AFL, however the club will need to trade those picks for listed players it’s targeting such as Griffin Logue and Darcy Tucker or they’d cease to exist.

AFL Media reports both Logue and Tucker remain keen on moves to Arden Street despite uncertainty around new coach Alastair Clarkson’s future.
