Dally M Team of the Year nominees named with six Warriors in contention

The NRL has announced the nominees for the Dally M Team of the Year ahead of the award presentation scheduled for September 27.

The annual event recognises the top performers across the season, with 13 players named as the best in their respective position.

Headlining the halfback nominees is Warriors gun Shaun Johnson, who is heavily tipped to take out the top gong after an impressive campaign.

Meanwhile, six players have been named as backrower nominees, with a heated battle between Liam Martin, Briton Nikora, Tyson Frizell, Haumole Olakau’atu, David Fifita and Hudson Young looming.

Ahead of the 2023 season the NRL made several changes to the Dally M voting process, with two independent judges handing out six points each on a 3,2,1 basis.

Judges will also vote for their best player in each respective position throughout the season, deciding who is named.

However, if a player comes in the top three of the overall leaderboard, they automatically earn selection in their respective position.

Players who are suspended for two or more games also become ineligible to earn a Dally M nomination, ruling out the likes of Reece Walsh, Scott Drinkwater and Valentine Holmes.

Kevin Walters, Andrew Webster and Ivan Cleary will also fight for the Coach of the Year position.

While Adam Reynolds, Isaah Yeo and Tohu Harris have been named as the nominees for the season’s best captain.
