Jim Courier is expected to join Nine’s commentary team at the Australian Open in the coming days after missing the start of the tournament to be with his family in fire-ravaged Los Angeles.
The former world No.1 and long-time broadcaster made his annual trip home from Australia to the US after the United Cup, but was missing from the first night of Nine’s Open coverage featuring world No.2 Alexander Zverev after deciding to delay his return.
A source familiar with Courier’s plans confirmed his home and family were not directly impacted by the fires and he was due to resume his commentary duties in Melbourne in the next couple of days.
Nine, owner of this masthead, declined to comment.
Courier has worked as a commentator at the Australian grand slam tournament since 2005.
As a player, he won four grand slam titles, two at Melbourne Park and two at Roland-Garros.
Nine’s commentary team also includes John McEnroe, Jelena Dokic, Todd Woodbridge, Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur.
