‘Carnage aplenty’: Fittler’s 105kg wrecking ball son dominates for NSW in U16 rugby champs

Brad Fittler’s son has Zach almost certainly captured the attention of rival NRL scouts after a barnstorming display playing rugby union for the New South Wales’ under-16 side.

The teenager helped NSW dominate Queensland 32-3 with an eye-catching performance that included a try at the national championships on Sunday.

“Zach ‘The Tank’ Fitter, what a motor, what a frame,” the commentator said after Fittler scored in the second half.

“Big Fittler gets away from one, says see you later to another, carnage aplenty left in his wake as he crosses.”

Fittler is already bigger than his famous father, tipping the scales at 105kgs, and played for the Sydney Roosters in the under-17 Harold Matthews competition this season.

“He’s making his own path, so he’s extremely excited and a little bit nervous,” Brad Fittler told Nine News after his Roosters debut.

“He’s bigger and stronger (than I am). It (changing of the guard) happened a few years ago, so I’m used to being dominated at home.

The NSW Blues coach, who played 38 times for Australia) also vowed to be a father first as he watches his son’s journey with pride.

“I’m very aware he has his own coaches,” he said.

“There are a lot of times where I want to say something, and most probably the hardest part of my day is not.”

NSW under-16 coach Paul Cividen said Fittler was one of several standouts in the match on Sunday.

“I don’t want to underestimate this, there is an air of excitement in the group,’’ Cividen said.

“We are very happy with the way they performed but just as excited by the improvement we can take from this.

“That’s exciting. Our patience and execution is something (to work on), there were some opportunities we let slip through our fingers. That’s normal and expected but we want to improve.’’
