Miami would soon enjoy their biggest lead of the game with just under seven minutes remaining in the third period when they held a 61-56 advantage, although Brunson was pulling out all the stops to keep it a manageable deficit for New York. The Knicks would go into the final quarter trailing 74-71 as Heat superstar Jimmy Butler found a bit of a groove with eight points in the third. It remained neck-and-neck in the final stages of the contest, but a late twist almost handed the Knicks the lead. The Heat’s Gabe Vincent was called for a flagrant foul with 59 seconds on the clock after he elbowed Brunson in the face while trying to get open. But Butler was fouled by Brunson late on as the Heat extended their advantage right at the death to progress to the Eastern Conference finals.
