COWBOYS’ ORIGIN GUN SET FOR EXTENSION AMID KEY SIGNINGS SPREE

The Cowboys are set to tick off another of their re-signing priorities, with Queensland winger Murray Taulagi set to ink an extension.

Rugby league reporter Brent Read revealed on Triple M that the Cowboys are close to locking up Taulagi, which will see them shift focus to two crucial players.

“Murray Taulagi played Origin this year and has been one of the real breakout players for the Cowboys this year,” Read said on Triple M.

“The Cowboys have been flying up the ladder and they have a lot of blokes that they need to re-sign at the moment.

“Reece Robson and Jeremiah Nanai are the big ones, but they are close to re-signing Murray Taulagi.

“That will be one more off the list and then they can focus on those blokes Nanai and Robson, so good news for the Cowboys.”

The 23-year-old has scored 26 tries in 52 games for the Cowboys since his debut in 2019 and played one Origin for Queensland in 2022.

RAIDERS HIT BACK

Ricky Stuart’s Raiders have reportedly poached a Knights prop on a two-year deal, hitting back after Newcastle poached Adam Elliott.

Pasami Saulo, 24, is set to move to the nation’s capital from 2023 onwards according to WWOS, having played 26 NRL games since his debut in 2018.

The hulking prop, who stands at 190cm tall, has appeared for Adam O’Brien’s side 10 times this season but faces stiff competition in the Knights forward pack.

Saulo faces the prospect of sitting behind Klemmer, Daniel and Jacob Saifiti, Frizell and new recruits Jack Hetherington and Adam Elliott if he remains in the Hunter.

But with a move to Canberra, Saulo will be desperate to cement a regular first grade spot.

Saulo played for the Australian Schoolboys in 2016 before moving into the Knights junior ranks.

BRONCOS STAR SET TO INK THREE YEAR EXTENSION

Reborn Broncos winger Corey Oates is set to sign a three-year extension at Red Hill worth $1 million.

Rugby league reporter Brent Read reported on Triple M that Oates is set to stay loyal with the Broncos on a reduced deal, despite interest from rival clubs, including the Dolphins.

“The deal is for another three years and he is obviously off-contract at the end of this year,” Read said on Triple M.

“Another three years for Corey Oates and I reckon it would be around the million dollar mark.

“It gives him the chance to be the highest try-scorer in Broncos history.

“By signing for three more years it gives him the chance to finish his career as their leading try-scorer.

“It has been one of the great renaissances this year Corey Oates. He was nearly out to pasture.

“They were ready to shop him around and let him go. But he has played Origin again and just had an outstanding year so it is a great result for Corey and the club and it will keep him at the club he loves for a bit longer.”

The 27-year-old has scored 118 tries in 191 games for the Broncos since his debut in 2013 and has played nine Origins for Queensland.
