BREAKING: Massive Pies blow as McStay suffers cruel ACL injury

Collingwood forward Dan McStay is expected to miss the entire 2024 season after suffering a ruptured ACL at training in a huge blow to the reigning premiers.

McStay went down during Friday’s training session, with scans confirming the worst possible news for the 28-year old.

He’d only just returned to the track from a medial ligament strain that caused him to miss Collingwood’s grand final win over Brisbane in a heartbreaking story.

“This is unfortunate news for Dan who is likely to miss the 2024 season,” Magpies footy boss Graham Wright said.

“Dan sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during today’s training session. He had returned to training this week after recovering from a medial ligament injury sustained in our preliminary final last season.

“We are all extremely disappointed for Dan, and our entire club will rally around him during this difficult time and throughout his rehab journey.”

McStay crossed from Brisbane to Collingwood as a free agent at the end of 2022 on a five-year deal until 2027.

He kicked 20 goals in 14 games for the Magpies before suffering a knee injury in the club’s preliminary final win over GWS. The former Pick 25 has played 157 AFL games since making his debut in 2014.

It comes after the Pies confirmed this week Brayden Maynard won’t return to training until February after undergoing a shoulder reconstruction, while Jamie Elliott will be on a modified program until January after a shoulder clean up.
