Boomers star inks new $64m deal; Former NBL MVP axed in shock move - Aussies in the NBA

Aussie rising star Josh Green has inked a three-year, $64.6m deal with the Dallas Mavericks while a former NBL MVP has been released.

Green agreed to terms before the deadline for extensions for the 2020 rookie class expired on Monday evening.

Green, who was the 18th pick of the 2020 NBA draft, had his best season to date in 2022-2023, averaging over 9 points per game on 53.7% shooting.

Meanwhile, former NBL MVP Xavier Cooks has been released by the Washington Wizards on the eve of the new season.

Cooks signed a four-year deal with the Wizards last March while in the midst of leading the Sydney Kings to an NBL title. He would win league MVP that season.

Not long after, Cooks travelled to Washington and played in 10 games for the Wizards before the end of the NBA season, averaging 3.8 points and 3.8 rebounds a game.

Cooks will be hoping to land with another NBA team, but if not, could sign a deal with a EuroLeague team according to The Herald Sun.

In addition to Cooks, fellow Boomer and former Melbourne United small forward Jack White was released by the Oklahoma City Thunder while Duop Reath was waived by the Portland Trail Blazers, only to sign a two-way contract with the team’s G League side.

Reath earned a contract with the Trail Blazers in the pre-season after a strong showing in the NBA Summer League.
