Ben Simmons not ready to return as Nets provide latest update on injured Australian NBA star

Ben Simmons’ NBA absence is set to continue, with Nets revealing the three-time All-Star will be unavailable for at least another two weeks due to left lower back nerve impingement.

In the team’s latest medical updates, Brooklyn said Simmons has “displayed consistent strength improvement in the affected area over the past two weeks and has further increased individual court work”.

Despite that, Simmons is still not quite ready to return to the court as the team added that his status will be updated again in “approximately two weeks”.

Brooklyn earlier this month confirmed that Simmons, who has been out since early November, had an epidural injection to help his recovery.

While the Nets have put a timeline on the next update on Simmons’ condition, there is still a level of uncertainty as to when Brooklyn fans could see the Australian back on the court.

Simmons’ agent shot down suggestions the injury could have long-term implications for the 26-year-old when news of the setback was first reported back in November.

“He’s experiencing some nerve irritation issues on the lower left side of his body, which is going to cause him to miss some time as he rehabs and builds himself back from that,” Lee told The New York Post’s Brian Lewis.

“He’s not experiencing anything similar to what he’s gone through in the past or what he went through last year, and this is something that the expectation is that with the proper kind of rehab, he’ll be able to resume his season in a short period of time without any issue.”

Simmons was averaging 6.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 31.8 minutes in six games this season before being sidelined through injury.
