The first Melbourne derby of BBL12 sees the Renegades trying to overcome the brutal loss of captain Nic Maddinson – and both they and the Stars desperately need a win at the MCG.
Maddinson ruptured his ACL in an innocuous incident during the New Year’s Day loss to Perth with the 31-year-old facing up to a year on the sidelines.
The injury sees Aaron Finch returning to the captaincy, which he relinquished in November 2021 after nine seasons leading the Renegades, plus 76 appearances as Australian T20 skipper.

Catching maestro Jake Fraser-McGurk and Jack Prestwidge come into the Renegades squad with Maddinson and Peter Handscomb exiting.
Meanwhile the Stars named an unchanged squad headlined by captain Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis and Trent Boult.
Both Melbourne sides are languishing in the bottom half of the BBL table, with the Renegades having lost four consecutive matches after a 3-0 start.
The Stars broke a three-game losing streak on New Year’s Eve against Adelaide, recording just their second win of the year. They are only net run rate ahead of the Heat who sit last on the table.
