‘Bails would come off’: Warner’s grim reveal about poor form as hilarious moments caught on mic

David Warner is more recognised for his ability with the bat, but his theatrics out in the field are also entertaining.

Warner was the latest Australian player mic’d up by Fox Cricket during the Boxing Day Test at the MCG on Monday, capturing some priceless moments.

Playing in his 100th Test match, we initially saw a lighter side of Warner in offering one of his daughters to wear his baggy green before coming onto the field.

“Do you want to wear Daddy’s hat walking out there?” He posed.

His milestone nor the big occasion seemed to phase a relaxed Warner early in the day, with food evidently on his mind.

“Those chips have got an early smell to them, aw man,” the 36-year old said to a teammate while getting a whiff of the fries in the stalls.

He later asked: “What’s Jimmy got for lunch for us?”

Aren’t we all focused on food on Boxing Day though?

Continuing with his laidback approach, Warner also had appreciation for the cardboard cutout of Scott Boland in the Shane Warne Stand.

“Look at that – they’ve got a statue of ‘Bolo’ (Boland),” Warner said while laughing. “That is brilliant.”

Maybe the best audio captured though was Warner’s admission around his own lacklustre form of late.

A Cameron Green delivery to Dean Elgar rolled onto the stumps but didn’t dislodge the bails in a close call for the South African.

Warner said of the near dismissal: “If that was me, the bails would come off, I’m telling you right now.”

He was later heard commentating the action to himself from the field to brush up on his skills for Fox Cricket for the Big Bash.

“Five for 130 … Nathan Lyon coming in to bowl, Marco Jansen on strike,” Warner said to himself.

“Forward defence, missed by back pad. Fielded by Cameron Green, Cameron Green passes the ball back to Nathan Lyon.”

There’s clearly never a dull moment out on the field with Warner around.
