The draw for this year’s Australian Open kicked off at 2.30pm in Melbourne.
You can watch the full draw below.
Wildcard opponent for Djokovic
By Marc McGowan
Defending men’s champion Jannik Sinner takes on tall Chilean Nicolas Jarry in his first round, while Novak Djokovic drew wildcard Nishesh Basavareddy. Interestingly, Djokovic could lock horns with his Brisbane conqueror Reilly Opelka in the third round.
Brutal opponents for young Aussies
Australia’s teenage up-and-comers Maya Joint and Emerson Jones – the junior world No.1 – drew US Open finalist Jessica Pegula and 2023 Australian Open runner-up Elena Rybakina, respectively
Tricky for de Minaur first up
By Marc McGowan
Eighth seed and Australia’s leading hope Alex de Minaur has a tough opener against Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, who upset Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open last year. De Minaur’s projected quarter-final is against world No.1 Jannik Sinner, who has beaten the Australian star in all nine of their meetings.
Nick’s opening clash
Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has drawn Jacob Fearnley, of Great Britain.
That’s a good outcome for the Australian, who has entered the event with a protected ranking after his long injury lay-off. Fearnley doesn’t necessarily represent a tough encounter for Kyrgios. He should be happy with that.
Kyrgios has been under an injury cloud in the last day or so.
He says serving is off the cards for a few days to give himself every chance to be fit for the start of the Open on Sunday. The 29-year-old said he’ll carefully monitor the final stages of his preparations for his home slam after a fresh injury threatened his involvement.

Notable women’s match-ups
The first matches for some of the big names in women’s tennis have landed. Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will face a former US Open winner, while Naomi Osaka must be feeling some deja vu, after being drawn against the woman who defeated Osaka in her grand slam comeback in Melbourne last year.
Here are some of the key first-round match-ups:
Naomi Osaka v Caroline Garcia
Jelena Ostapenko v Belinda Bencic
Coco Gauff v Sofia Kenin
Ayrna Sabalenka v Sloane Stephens
Iga Swiatek v Katerina Siniakova
A tough clash for Coco Gauff
When grand slam winners collide – that’s what will happen in the first round when Coco Gauff, who won the 2023 US Open, faces former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin.
Kenin claimed the silverware at Melbourne Park in 2020, when she defeated Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in three sets to take the championship.
